When God first gave me the vision for the Vision Building Women, He gave it to me as I was in the midst of doing something else that I knew He had given to me to do. I was in the middle of moving forward with the ministry that God had placed in my heart, so why was there now a vision for bigger?

Little did I know at the time that everything I was doing was me preparing spiritually, professionally, and personally for the bigger assignment that God had for me. God had given me the assignment that He had purposed to move me toward my destiny. But for a while, I was standing in the way of my destiny.

How was I in my own way? I was allowing doubt, obstacles and guilt to keep me from moving forward. I call these three “momentum stoppers” – the D.O.G.s that will keep you from your destiny.

I don’t want you to have to deal with these, so let’s take a look at these three “momentum stoppers” and how to deal with them.

Doubt will have you uncertain about where God is taking you. You begin to wonder if the vision is really God given or is it just something “you want to do.” Doubt will eventually lead to fear and discouragement. I have learned that to move forward with the vision, you have to break up with doubt and fear. These two momentum stoppers can rob you of your joy, peace and the abundance that God has for you. They can also lead to discouragement and have you bogged down with burdens that God never intended for you to bear. Doubt will also attempt to remove the clarity for the vision in your heart.

An obstacle by definition is something that hinders your progress. The very job of an obstacle is to stop you from moving forward. God has a plan for your life. Unexpected obstacles show up in your path and try to stop you from living your purpose and carrying out that plan. No matter what obstacles are currently present in your life, they can’t stop the plan God has for you. The greater impact of your purpose and vision, the greater obstacles you will face (click to tweet).

Finally let’s look at guilt. I am sure we have all struggled with this one. You feel guilty that you desire to do something that you love. You feel guilty that you are not spending as much time with your family. You feel guilty because someone told you that we’re not supposed to dream bigger – we are to be satisfied. I experienced guilt when I moved from having an annual ministry conference to teaching, mentoring and coaching. Guilt nags us and burdens us until we find some way to shut it down. Guilt is a momentum stopper as it becomes a hindrance in your mind.

How do you move forward and move the D.O.G.s out of your life?

  1. Pray! If you have been drowning in doubt and fear, there seem to be insurmountable obstacles all around you trying to stop you and you feel guilty because you are doing what you have been called to do, then you must STOP and PRAY. When we give those situations and the people associated with them to God, then He will move on our behalf. Also, I learned to stop spending my time listening to others and start maximizing my prayer time. Prayer changes things. Prayer changes you!
  1. Stay connected with people who push your forward. Remember that the people you hang with have an impact both your lives and your income. You must be careful to choose the people you hang out with, as well as the information with which you feed your mind. We should not share our dreams with negative people, nor feed our dreams with negative thoughts. To keep situations outside from getting inside of you, you have to keep negative, doubtful, fearful, bad-news people out of your life. I know there are people around you that love drama, gossip, and feed off people’s struggles. Avoid these people. Instead, spend time with people that encourage you, remind you of your gifts and talents, and challenge you to pursue your vision regardless of the obstacles you are facing. Stay connected to people who keep you sharp and in proper alignment with God. Remember, iron sharpens iron (click to tweet).
  1. Stay focused. If you lose focus, you give up your freedom. Then you fight the wrong battle at the wrong time and for the wrong reasons. Know the battle you are in and fight for it. When you are focused you will receive the prize. The enemy will attempt to distract you and derail you from your purpose. The enemy will make you think you have failed, but you cannot fail, because God does not create failures (click to tweet). God did not create you to go backwards. Everything about God flows forward! Stay focused on His vision. Move forward!

Once you step out on faith toward the destiny that God has ordained for you, there is no going back. You must move forward! (click to tweet)
